Inspiration

Introduction
There are countless ways that inspiration can be created and expressed. However, as my interest is in the mediumistic arts, I would like to look at inspiration in the sense of being inspired from our own and excarnate higher beings. The Oxford Dictionary talks about the word inspire originally being "a word used for divine or supernatural, in the sense of imparting a truth or idea to someone".

This particular explanation fits in very well with the idea of inspiration in mediumship because often mediums who are speaking or writing inspirationally tend to be given their words by Spirit Guides or Teachers from the Spirit World who are wishing to impart their spiritual (and life) truths and ideas to us humans on the Earth plane.

Mediumistic inspiration involves attuning to highly spiritually evolved beings and allowing them to either lightly overshadow, or in some areas of Trance Mediumship, imprint a deeper connection upon the medium and provide words of spiritual teaching and wisdom. In a Divine Service at many of our Spiritualist Churches, mediums with true and strong connections to the Spirit World are able to demonstrate beautiful and powerful words that have the intention of touching the hearts of the audience and in many cases, being of significant meaning to many people listening to these words.

In a Spiritualist National Union church / centre, mediums are often encouraged to begin their inspirational speaking to our Seven Principles of Spiritualism:
  1. The Fatherhood of God
  2. The Brotherhood of Man
  3. The Communion of Spirits and the ministry of Angels
  4. The continuous existence of the human soul.
  5. Personal responsibility
  6. Compensation and retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on Earth.
  7. Eternal progress open to every human soul.
And then to move into messages of love, hope and inspiration that are brought forward from the Spirit World. Other centres work with similar topics and areas such as love, death, dying and bereavement, happiness and dreams, strength and meaning of life, to name but a few!!

When mediums are truly attuned to their Spirit Inspirers / Teachers, this can be a wonderful and deeply moving experience. The words are sent to touch all and bring upliftment, encouragement and strength to those in need. This is a very valuable type of mediumship which takes a great deal of skill and that sadly often gets discarded and overlooked as the powerful phenomenon it actually is.
